    Lower unit vent screwdriver

    3B221750
Looking for a screwdriver that fits lower unit vent screw. Anyone got any ideas. I'd rather not bugger it up first lower unit change.

It should have a hex head on the screw head along with the slot for screwdriver, you can use a socket on it. Torque spec is 100 inch lbs i think.

Yep but what is the specific slot head that fits it.

Heath I took an existing large screwdriver with a square shank and ground the tip to fit. This allows you to apply a wrench to the shank to aide in removal efforts as required.

You want a hollow ground screwdriver, or bit, that fully fits the slot width and length.

Yep I agree with all of you. I guess I'm asking for someone to point me in the direction of a specific product. I own a lot of screwdrivers and a lot of bits. None fit and in the past I've been guilty of messing up vent plugs. Would like to avoid that in the future.

That snap on tool looks great but like all snap on tools is quite expensive. All great ideas above! I use a large craftsman screwdriver that fits the slot very well as mentioned plus if I need more leverage or torque I simply put an open end wrench close to the handle and turn it that way if it is too tight. Hope this helps!

Took 30 seconds to find an inexpensive impact screwdriver kit (5 hollow ground flat blades, 4 Phillips, 4 hex, driver and a case) for less than $21 and free shipping. Harbor Freight probably has the exact same thing in stock.

Why would you use screw driver versus a socket? The socket has much better engagement and is les likely to slip.

not sure mine has that option and it's not here to go check.
I know the older side mounts for sure were just screw head.

The V8's have hex head fill and vent screws behind the propeller.

As everyone else said. It takes a 10mm socket. I did not figure that out until I had already broken two screwdrivers.
