Fill up boat now with prices down?

Think I've read differing opinions on this in the past but thought I'd throw it out there again...assuming boat will now sit idle til beginning of March...would you take advantage of the lowest prices we've seen in some time to fill up? Always use Don's cocktail when adding gas to the tank, in addition to a full tank (less chance for any moisture to build up in the tank?) have me giving it some serious thought...whaddya think??

this. I usually fill up on my way to the launch in the morning or fill up a couple 5 gal cans the day before. If I fill up my tank, it might last a full season with the amount I fish and how I drive my boat.

i don’t want the gas sitting in the tank for extended periods

My dealer always told me to keep the tank as low as possible in the winter. Back in the day when gas tanks were metal, sweating was a bigger issue than now when they're plastic. He said to stabilize what little is in the tank now and then fill up with fresh gas in the spring.

wouldn't concern me a bit to fill it up now and fire it up in March....

There is a member here that has posted this information before, and it’s very much what I believe also. I am not going to be able to give you the full smart version, I just can’t remember it all. But cliff notes, fuel really only goes bad if exposed to air. Fill your tank to brim, where it’s starting up the hose. That will only allow like 2 square inches to be touching air. Gas won’t go bad.

Put mine away every winter, brimmed full and fire up in spring. Never an issue.

That's what I have done and has been recommended to me every year.
I fill the tank before winter and store it until spring every year.
It's worked for the last 16 years .

We're at $2.99 right now, but it's at least 25 cents more nearby.

I don't have the FOF (fear of fuel) that many on this site do..
There's been a bazillion boats go the winter full of fuel without issue..

Me too. I don’t want to mix the cheap gas with the $5 gallon gas in my tank and dilute the good gas with cheap stuff.

I would. I fill mine up every fall right before the ice comes. Stabilized, ethanol-free fuel has no problem lasting until March.

If price continues to fall what cha gonna do dump it and go refill with cheaper in the spring and if it goes up ya gonna burn what ya got in the tank then park the boat ?? just seems futile to worry about it unless ya down to your last few bucks.

What I’ve heard is a full tank allows less moisture to develop in the air space created by a less than full tank. Phase Separation of the ethanol is what you’re trying to avoid. Basically a layer of water at the bottom of your tank. Everything I’ve read says ethanol gas has about three month shelf life. I’ve pushed it longer than that with Stabil ethanol stabilizer added to the tank.
