Broke spline on drive shaft and it’s stuck

3.0 liter lower unit. Broke spline off in motor

Hit a rock pile last Saturday. Figured I messed up gears. When I dropped the Lower unit. The drive shaft broke at the splines and the splines are still stuck in the crank. How do I remove ?? They won’t just fall out. I drove around and hit every bump in the road I could think of

It's possible that the splines are twisted. If so, will probably need to pull the powerhead.

If you would, please take a moment to review the Announcements at the top of the Forum, and be sure to provide the REQUIRED Info (serial number) with each new post. Thanks!

In most cases, the powerhead is removed, center punch used on the driveshaft stub, and then drill/tap the center of the stub to be able to extract it.

I've seen anything from falling out when center-punched, to having to drill and use a slide hammer to remove a stub with twisted splines.
