    Spot/ mig welding on trailer

Has a older Stratos Trail trailer.
The spare tire lug broke away from base. Basic it a square tube and a round pate with hole drill tru and mig weld lungs to hole spare.

What the correct way to weld on a trailer with the boat on it , with out doing any damage to boat and trailer wireing ect.

The correct way is to launch the boat and tie off to a dock or beach on the bank if possible. Then you have all access to where its installed on the trailer and don't have to worry about weld spatter making pock marks in your gel coat,carpet,ect..

Get paint from trailer manufacturer based on serial number or whatever they need

Cover any areas you are concerned with burning, melting or whatever with WET towels, blankets and or rags. Weld and remove wet coverings. Paint to cover the effected area and GO FISHING.

I tig welded the keel on my boat without any issues, just disconnected the ground wires on the battery. the H/F start on the tig will play heck with electronics. Be SURE of the ground connection on the welder. Make it as close to the weld as possible and connect to a clean spot for a good connection. When the welder has to 'hunt' for a ground that is when you may have issues. CJ

I would not have it hooked up to tow vehicle either.
