John 10:34 "Isn't it written in your law, I said, you are gods?

Jesus was about to be stoned by the hostile religious leaders, for claiming Jesus committed blasphemy. However, Jesus' immediate response was to point to His miracles, and Jesus cites Psalm 82:1–8, referencing to the Old Testament establishes His claim in something these men claim to take seriously, the Word of God. In the next verses, Jesus will compare the words of the Old Testament to the claim these men now claim is blasphemous.
If "gods" is an appropriate description, from God Himself, to those who perform His will, then how can they stone Jesus, who has performed actual miracles, for blasphemy in claiming to be the Son of God?
Jesus starts a debate with them that, even by their own standards, they're being hypocrites.

Their rejection of Jesus' claim to be the "Son of God", and their rejection of him as the promised "Messiah [Hebrew] or Christ [Greek]" was foretold hundreds of years in advance.

"He was despised and was avoided by men, A man who was meant for pains and was familiar with sickness. It was as if his face were hidden from us. He was despised, and we held him as of no account." - Isaiah 53:3 , John 4:25-26

If you guys have time, Read the entire Chapter of Isaiah 53. It's dedicated to what the promised Messiah would experience.

Very good observation Lenny, and I have read Isaiah in its entirety, including the passage you have quoted.
