Does water flow through thermostats before the gauge? (overheat issue)

I have a 2007 HPDI 250 with an overheat issue i'm trying to track down. Poppet valve is fine, impeller was done 6 months ago. I lost water psi at my gauge and its definitely an overheat as my HDS are hooked up to the motor and got the alarm.

In diagnosing I wasn't sure if the gauge received the water psi after the thermostats in the way its plumbed. If so thermostats are my next check, if not i'm pulling the lower unit. Just hard to believe that impeller has an issue.

Also, it's still peeing at the motor what i would consider a normal stream.

Make sure the metal impeller cup didn't spin in the plastic housing. It will put out a close to normal stream but won't have the volume needed.
