My 25 Fury 4 Blade met an untimely end...is there any hope?

While runnin 70mph up the mississippi river in pool 13, well inside the river channel, in 25ft of water....i STILL managed to hit something. :-(

And most of one ear on my beloved 25 pitch Fury 4 is gone.

Has anyone ever encountered a prop shop that can fix this in a way that makes economic sense, or do I have a really shiny doorstop? If it's the latter, is it worth anything for scrap, or is there any valid use for the carcass?

Rest In Peace. Time for a new one. Great prop though.

You may want to consider a 27 P Bravo XS or FS which will run better higher ( PTP ) than a Fury.

I have had 2 do that "culling" process. I talked with Mark Croxton once getting advice on what I should replace it with and asked him if he wanted it to repair, no cost to him and I would ship it (as we talked quite a bit of time and he was full of great information on what I would need given my boat, weight, balance, etc). His answer was he is too old and busy to waste that much time lol. Yea, big paperweight now...

Thanks all for confirming what I already suspected, and for the additional prop advice. I think I'm gonna sink it on a rock flat in my favorite lake as "structure", and hopefully at least catch a bass or two off it some day.

Maybe a stupid question, but do these break at high speeds only or at normal speed as well? I’m contemplating buying one or a Bravo 1 for a 19 z521L

The X7 alloy is incredibly stiff and strong, but seems to be brittle. At high prop heights the constant unloading and loading of the blade exiting and reentering the water seems to fatigue it. Couple that with a stress magnifier like a small chip on the leading edge and they will eventually fail. High speed surfacing applications will make them fail more quickly, but they can give way at any speed. It’s a shame because it is a fantastic prop otherwise. I’ve got a 24 on my 21x2 Triton with about 150 trouble free hours but the evidence is out there. They are time bombs.

I DOUBT YOU HIT ANYTHING. FURY 4'S ARE NOTORIOUS FOR SLINGING EARS. I HAVE A "DOORSTOP/PAPER WEIGHT" OF MY OWN. I KNOW LIKE 5 OTHER PEOPLE THAT HAVE FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY AS WELL. I WENT WITH A BRAVO 1 XS MYSELF AND SO FAR, SO GOOD. YOU CAN TELL BY JUST LOOKING AT THE TWO SIDE BY SIDE THAT THE BRAVO IS A BETTER BUILT PROP.

Thanks jg1456. Did you go with the same pitch on the bravo as on your fury 4? I'm thinking of going this way. My boat really liked the 25 in the Fury 4. Trying to decide if I also go 25 on the bravo.

MY BOAT RAN THE BEST WITH A 24P FURY 4, BUT I RAN ACROSS A DEAL ON THE 25P BRAVO. I JUST COULDN'T BRING MYSELF TO TRY ANOTHER FURY 4 AFTER WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND AFTER TALKING TO PEOPLE WITH THE SAME MISFORTUNE. THE 25P BRAVO SEEMED TO SLIP MORE THAN I CARED FOR, SO I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL PROP SHOP AND HAD A LITTLE CUP PUT IN IT.

If your WOT rpms are right with the 25 f4, you’ll really want the 26 in the bravo, if you’re 200+ light on rpm consider the 25, if you’re on the limiter you should consider a 26.5 or 27. Under no circumstances should you even consider the 25.5 or 27.5 as the +1.5 pitches do not perform and you will be very disappointed.

Thanks Jtreed99. My RPMs at WOT with the 25 Fury 4 were typically 5950, sometimes tickling 6000.

I think a 26.5 might be just right if you can find it, you’ll pick up a few rpms going to the 26, and lose some going to the 27 as compared to the 25 fury. Right price and availability I wouldn’t hesitate to try any one I could get hands on in 26, 26.5, or 27. Depending on how ptp shakes out you could probably get any of those really close to where you want to be. Sound like you’ve got that 201 rolling down the lake pretty good. Getting around 75 mph?

I got 74/75 with a Yamaha 25T1, but the boat was really hard to control. Really severe chine walk, and I'm somewhat inexperienced driving through that. And the boat had a tendency to want to launch out of the water on every minor wave. So while the 25T1 was fast, I hated how the boat handled. I'd get about 72 with the 25 Fury 4, but the boat felt very in-control. No launching, good cornering. And I'm perfectly happy with 72mph.
