'88 Johnson GT 150 tach not working?

Prior to having the rebuild completed the tach had stopped working. Engine was rebuilt and tach was not working as anticipated. The stator and rectifier have been replaced with new ones however the tach is still not working. Thinking it may be the tach a new one was attached and still not working! Mechanic connected a meter to the end of wire where it connects to tach and it showed RPM's; Reconnected wire to tach and nada. Then mechanic connected a jumper wire from engine to tach both old and new and still no working tach....

    What are we missing here?

Do you have a surface mount control box with a warm up lever? If so there should be a plug on the bottom of the control, there should be a 3 pin female amphenol connector there it is for the tach harness everything needed is in that plug.
