Ever run out of gas on the road

The EV thread got me wondering. How many have run out of gas. 44yrs old here and it’s happened twice. Once when I was 20 and just wasn’t paying attention. Other time was about 23, had a 2hr commute one way to work. Ran out about a mile from the gas station, b/c I didn’t want to pay the high price of the highway gas station. Both times there was no low fuel warning alarm like the newer cars have.

Bought a new Camaro back in about 1993. It didn't have a "low Fuel" light like my wife's previous cars had but she only drove it when I was out of town in the SUV. She ran out of gas twice, both times she was in a fast food drive thru line!!! Of course is was my fault.

has not happened to me in awhile. The old F150s with dual tanks always got me, run one tank dry, than u realized, the other tank is almost empty.

I did once while I was in college. Hitched a ride and got some gas.

Yup, on the way to a lake two hours away. Knew I was low, got off the freeway and it shut off about a 1/2 mile later. Boat had 50 gallons in it, no way to get it out. Ever since then I carry a long clear hose

    Yes...

    On purpose.

Was 17 and had just bought my first truck (one-owner 1970 C/10)... wanted to see how far it would go on "E", so I put a 5-gallon can of fuel in the back and took off.

Damn thing went nearly 50 miles before running out.

But no; have never run out of gas by accident.

Had a 1964 International Scout. It had an eight gallon gas tank and the fuel gauge didn't work. Ran out on the interstate near my home. Didn't keep that POS long.

It hasn't ever happened to me. Been darn close a couple times. Missed a station once and was fighting a big head wind. Decided not to turn around at first as miles to E showed I would make it to the next. Went about 4 more mile and turned around as the gauge was making about 1 mile to loosing 3 miles on the gauge.

On my '90 Firebird the "E" really did mean it was empty. I found that out the hard way. I feel like I can drive 20+ miles in my truck after the low fuel light comes on.

On my motorcycle back in the day. A buddy thought it would be funny to turn the petcock to reserve. When it started to sputter I reached down only to find it was already on reserve. Farmer gave me a ride to the gas station and back to my bike.

Twice - first truck was a 1967 Ford F-100. The old 14-gal tank was behind the seat, and the float would sometimes get stuck before we moved the tank. Never drove it further than the end of road before grandfather and I restored it, so it wasn't that big of a deal.

In real life, I've come close a couple times but always managed to coast in on fumes.

My wife? Let's not go there.

Yes…lifted an 01 f250 and I suspect I changed the geometry of the truck as far as usable fuel. The new range after the low fuel light changed dramatically. Got me trailering back to Houston from Lake Palestine. I was able to coast off the highway and stop in a Academy
parking lot. I was lucky to be in light traffic and the timing was perfect.

When my tank reaches the half way mark I'm already thinking about topping it off. Never came close to running out!
