I can tell you one thing... if you get the engine connected to Diacom and get a full history report (Run History, Freeze Frame (Fault) History, and Fault Seconds Counters) we will be able to view those and tell a heck of a lot more than "guessing".

Worst case... you can even record the engine and send the file to me (I have the ability to play it back if that's needed).

    Thank you Don.
I'm ordering the Diacom soon and will post back with findings.

The Diacom website says I must have the 555 PCM.
    I have a DFI ECM.
Will the Diacom still work for me?

    s-l1600.jpg

EDIT: It looks like this indicates that it will work with my DFI ECM, right?

    FINALLY!
The kit arrived on Sunday (2 days early) and I was into another job so had to wait. Finally got it hooked up and realized I really had no idea what I was doing.
I'm not sure exactly what is a full history report (Run History, Freeze Frame (Fault) History, and Fault Seconds Counters)
I have some screen shots - hoping y'all can help me decipher them.
My initial impression is the air temp sensor. Let me know what I missed and I will grab them.
    Thanks
    Chris

Read faults and History then save the data. The report will look like a regular diagnostic report.

    See post #6.

You can get the report with engine running or not. I do mine with the motor running on the muffs. If not running the motor, just have to turn the key to “on” so that the software will connect to the PCM.

OK that is what I did, with the engine off ignition on. I only had one active fault code - air temp sensor.
I took screen shots instead of savng. Will it give you any additional info about the fault?

I am guessing when you have the engine running you get more information?

    Thanks

I will try it again this evening.....It looked like the air temp sensor wires were pinched at one time. There is also electical tape around one of the wires.
    Can those wires be spliced?
I ask so that I will know if its right or someone did something wrong there.

    Thanks

AIR TEMP SENSOR is located on the Intake Manifold (not the one on the air compressor).

Is this the one on the front of engine?

The air temp sensor is mounted on top of the air plenum. Shown in the electrical section in the Mercury manual.

Yes, for the engine in question, it is likely mounted as shown in that image.

Thank you Don, Joe54, Bob G. and everyone else.
Turns out the one of the connectors for the air temp sensor was not fully connected if at all. It had electrical tape around it so I was expecting the worst. I started to unwrap the tape and almost immediately the wire and connector popped out. I got a sinking feeling and continued to unwrap the tape. Once I had removed the tape, I examined both connectors closely. I could see no damage at all. I reconnected the connectors and they snapped in tightly. I have no idea why they had tape on it. Turned the ignition on and no check engine light! I connected the diacom again and it showed no active faults. WooHoo! $600 to find out something was disconnected. Worth every penny! Now I have it and it will help me going forward.

Thank you again everyone. I really appreciate your help with this.
