Like fly fishing for trout. Keep down sizing until you get bit. That includes dropping down in line size as well. This is were the drop shot and Ned baits excel.

Smaller, slower with light line is one option. Going with your highest confidence baits is another option. Part of the equation is where to fish. I go with the heaviest cover I can find and flip smaller baits like a tube or 4 inch worm.

Shaky head. Start with a big worm then keep downsizing weight and line. They'll always hit it either dragging, vertical drop or swimming.

It depends on the body of water and what the options are. Yesterday I fished three hours in the morning in Ontario and caught zero bass and one skinny pike. Even Ned failed to produce so much as a bump. It was a blustery day with a north wind but such things don’t happen in Ontario! After returning to the cabin, doing some chores and having lunch I headed back out unsure what to do next. As I sped past a large bay of lily pads, protected from the wind, I thought why not? So I flipped pads and in 90 minutes had caught 8 fat bass up to 3 1/2 lbs and landed 14 by 5 pm. Happiness restored. Maybe it was time for the fish to eat, who knows. But I think the key was heavy cover.

In the past I’ve grabbed a 1/4 ounce vibrix rooster tail. I’ve never got a ten pounder or anything like that, but I have finished off a limit a few times with 15” keepers.

    ….usually a shakey head on a 4in straight-tail worm, or a 4in senko with no weight.
