It’s a Dragonfly. Damselflies the wings fold straight with the body when they land.

They are amazing fliers. Change direction in an instant. And they can eat a lot of mosquitoes!

bdog, do you have a site youd recommend for identifying these. Wife and I are into birding and this year when we have been out I have started capturing photos of these amazing insects too. Example. I am shooting a D500, with a Sigma 150-600 most of the time. Sometimes I have a Nikon 18-140 on.

The way I do it is either from my android phone go the gallery. When you open the pic there is the option to send it. One of the options will be Google Image Search.

Or if its on a computer, open in Chrome and right click on it. One of the options is Google Search.

If doing birds there is an app for you phone called Merlin.

    Love my D500

Thanks bdog and csurp, for the birds I have all the apps. Never eve n thought about inaturalist or Google image search for the dragonflies. This photography thing is addictive :) Do use Merlin which is a little spotty, there is also a Facebook group that does really good at birds if you cannot really confirm on Merlin, group name is "What Bird Is This"

If I had not lost my job I think I would look like that. Already plan on getting another D500 body once I can so I can have both cameras ready to go on the fly while I am out and not have to change lenses.

Here is a photo of Eastern Pondhawks mating from INATURALIST.COM. Male is blue, I think.
