Are some years more prone to hull problems? AVX 1980

I am not a current owner but am considering upgrading my Crestliner vt 18.
I'm looking mainly at the 1980 and possibly a ranger rt 198p.

I am curious if there are years that I need to stay away from while shopping around?

    Thanks

Both of those options only come with a 150 hp motor which is too small for that size boat. I would look into an Xpress X19 with a 200hp or 19 ft Crestliner with a 200.

Your post had nothing to do with his question. Also, a 150 hp engine will be fine on either of those boats he asked about.

danb303, I would stay with 2022 and newer hulls due to the .125 hull upgrade. I think .100 is fine but with larger outboards the thicker hulls should help.

Be fine and perform well are two different things. A 19 foot plus bass boat should have bigger than a 150hp on it.

Not trolling at all, I really like the design and layout of the Vexus boats, but I won't buy one due to how they undersize the motors on them, an 1880 with a 150 would be perfect for my use.

Take my word for it. You do not want to go 60 mph in a 1880. Everything has it limitations and speeds of above 55 would be dicey at best. The hull has extreme lift even at 47-50 mph. It is what it is and it ain't what it ain't.

I bet it would handle just fine if you had the correct prop and motor height dialed in just like any other boat.

If a Tracker 195 can handle 60 MPH fine there is no doubt in my mind that a better built Vexus hull would do as good or better.

Complete bs. And agree, you want the new .125 hull.

I don’t get this under powered argument, my boat jumps on plane in freaking 2 seconds and will run 50 all day.

50 is extremely slow for a bass boat that is almost 20ft long. Even 60 would be considered slow, 65-70 MPH is about par for a bass boat that size.

The nay sayers have never been in a Vexus. Its very obvious from the comments. If you put a 150 on an 1880 it will literally fly. Same with the 1980 and a 200hp. Buy a different boat if you need more HP or speed. These AVX boats are far from underpowered.

I have been in a Vexus. An 1880 with a 115 tops out around 47-50 MPH with a 115, with a 150 it would hit 60 no doubt in my mind, an 18' 10" bass boat needs a 150 on it at least.

Back to the original question of the OP. From what I have seen 2020 on seem to be better . But for sure if a 2022 was available that would be better yet.

I have an 1880 with a 135HO and have got 55 out of mine.

Doesn't "NEED" a 150hp, but maybe someone "WANTS" more power.

Depends on what you mean by need, to catch fish no you don't need one, you could do that with a 9.9 on it. However to remain competitive in today's bass boat market going by what is common on other brands and what kind of performance is expected out of a boat with a nearly 19 foot long hull a 150hp is needed. Most other brands offer at least that.

50 is as fast as I care to go. I give zero craps about getting to a spot 13 seconds faster.
