    swapping shift rod and driveshaft

I just blew my 2004 225 HO lower unit, and I had another to bolt on temporarily. I have a spare lower unit from a 2004 Model: 250FCZSRM Serial: 5044519, but its a long shaft motor. I need a backup lower unit for my 2004 Model: E225FHLSOB Serial: 05096340. They both visually look the same to me except for the shift shaft and drive shaft. Can I swap both from one lower to the other?

Can you pop out the drive shaft or does it require disassembly?

    Thanks for you help.

The C letter in the model number indicates this engine and lower unit to be a counter rotation model. It will bolt up but you will unpleasantly surprised if you use your original propeller.

You can pop it out a slide hammer will work but I have a tool that clamps to the drive shaft on the water pump key and then lifts it out using two bolts on either side of the drive shaft. SEI sells a tool for that and costs about $25.00.

Thank you for confirming that, I will try the slide hammer first.
