    GPS puck questions

Just bought a used boat with a Humminbird Helix 8 Chirp Mega SI GPS G3N. It also has an Ulterra 112# I Pilot Link trolling motor with a network cable going to the Helix. Trying to get the hang on operating the 2 units and what they are capable of. Unfortunately I can't deploy the Ulterra while the boat is in the trailer, so learning the ropes isn't possible without the boat in the water. With the Ulterra turned on and going to Acc on the Helix menu I find the Ulterra, but I don't see anything about the GPS puck. Should that show up as an Acc, and how do I know it's working? Anybody have links to videos which show using the 2 units together? Thank, Ron

Also, I have found a fused 12v power wire on my third battery of the 36v system at the bow. Could this be for the GPS puck?

The Minnkota puck is not GPS, it is a Heading Sensor that "talks" to the iPilot GPS inside the top of the motor via Bluetooth.
iPilot is turned off when the trolling motor is stowed.

It will be shown as a GPS source in the Network Source menu like this when the trolling motor is deployed:

It will be blacked out when the trolling motor is stowed like this:

The purpose of the Heading Sensor and why it is included with the motor is for the Jogging feature when Spotlocked.
Both iPilot and iPilot LINK motors come with the Heading Sensor.

iPilot LINK (Ethernet connection) allows Heading/GPS to be used as a GPS and Heading source for a display/s

The Heading sensor needs 12V power that is fused and switched.

You can download/view the manual on the Humminbird or Minnkota website.

Thanks for that info. Kinda assumed the motor would have to be deployed.
