    My first Boat

    Hi Guys!
I just got my first real boat, a 97 Viper Coral 202 F&S!
I've never owned anything bigger than a jon boat and have a lot to learn at 46 yrs!
I already have a problem that I have created a separate thread for that LOL.
I appreciate any advice you guys have to send an old Noob.

    Glad to be here!

Just take your time and she will learn you what she likes handling and limits.
It's no Jon boat so I would suggest that you figure out your limits and move up gradually.
Do that have a. 200 hp?

I own a 2002 Cobra DC 201 with 2003 Mercury 225 EFI on a 10" JP, which is a different beast yet the same heritage. You will be greatly rewarded the more seat time you put in, so ease into it.
    Does she have JP?
    What size? 6 or 8"
    What is your P2P?
When was the last time the motor was tuned and decarboned?

    No JackPlate. Direct mount.
    I don't know what P2P means
Supposedly decarboned last year. When I did a conmpression check, I ran my little camera into the cylinder and the valves didn't look bad to me, but I'm not a mechanic. My idea was to SeaFoam it fairly soon JIC.
    Thanks

Since you do not have a jackplate, changing the prop 2 running pad would be a PITA since you would need to pull the bolts, so hopefully is set at least on the second hole.
2 Strokes don't have valves, so I do not know what you were looking at may be the reeds, but I think that the compression should be in around 100-110 psi.

I use Mercury products so I have nothing for you on the Seafoam intel.

NP, though if you have a bore scope, you can check the cylinder walls for any scoring and ports for built up, but if you don't see much built up on cylinder tops, you shouldn't be that bad.

How does your prop look? any major dings, cause it will make a major difference by getting it B&B. I would recommend Mark Croxton, who has done a great job with all my current and past props.
Here is my '02 Cobra on the way to 10 days of fishing.

    Stainless prop looks great.
My big concern now is rust/brown water that came out when I pulled the drain plug.
I'm trying to figure out how to find out of my stringers are OK.
    Thanks!

How is your transom? I have heard of quite a few boats with transom issues it seems, but I have not heard much about stringers.
Hopefully, someone will jump in and correct us. I pray that it I neither, and just residual bilge dirt from previous owner.

I believe that when you say you put your weight against it you did it by pulling on the motor to check for any flex, which is the way of doing it.
