    Lake Cayuga event—-Batteries going dead??

I was able to watch most of this event, and it seems to me that I heard at least 2-3 comments, maybe more about trolling motor batteries going dead before the end of the day. Think Wheeler was one of them.
Did anyone else pick up on this?

I didn't watch the last day but I did see some video from Brent Chapman and it looked very rough where he was fishing.

Watched all 6 days, more than one angler ran their batteries dead. I'd say they were Lithium. I can fish Pickwick in strong current all day with X2's. Might take longer to charge but...

They all run good batteries I would guess, I would blame the TM, Connell lost his batteries in KO round and he is running ultrex and they are not brushless motors like lowrance and garmin. PP charge is also a battery saver, any pro that does not have one is nuts IMO. I followed Connell all day on final day and ran my TM almost as much as he did, my agm’s were still at 90% with my garmin at end of day and the wind was brutal.

I bought a pro’s boat last fall. Needed to
change out the x2 batteries on it. Unfortunately, they have a
non transferable warranty on them. I looked at the hours on his graph, he had 1435 hours on the graph, 326 hours on the motor. This boat was only used 8 months!!

I have noticed that more often than not, when pros involved in an event are on the front of the boat, their two big graphs on the console are still fully active, not to mention the 2 or 3 additional ones on the bow. This is not to suggest that they don’t know what they are doing, but whatever their reason, that’s a lot of extra current draw. They’ll figure out how to deal with these issues; it’s their livelihood.

I spot locked in a stiff 15-20mph wind on Oneida a few weeks back and I was drawing 14-16 amps per hour via my ionic app while I was fishing for about 30 min on that point. My app said if I did that for 6-7 hours my batteries would be dead. That’s on 100ah lithiums. They don’t last forever like everyone thinks they do.

Wheeler said he and Connell run Millertechs with PP Charge on his 2022 boat walk-through.

I saw Connell borrowing a 36v lithium from Defoe after the knockout round in the Parking lot. I guess they are light enough to carry a spare one.

Most run dual 36v trolling batteries these days due to them running the first one down quicker then what most people realize. Guess now we know who didn’t have spare trolling batteries rigged in there boats.

    I foresee 2 changes.
    1. More guys will start running Monster lithiums, seeing that they have a 73ah single 36v. 2 of those =146ah, more than any 3 lead acids could dream of.
    2. More companies are going to start making higher capacity 36v batteries than their 40-50ah.

And you'd go through 6 lead batteries trying to use a spot lock trolling motor with all the stuff they run now.

The trolling motor is the only thing connected to the trolling batteries and should not be affected by the use of other electronics on the boat unless these guys are running a different setup....what am I missing here?

A lot of it has to do with how much time they have to charge them. If you fish multiple days in a row and you don’t get them fully charged between times, you end up running out the last day. It’s not that the batteries, if fully charged, aren’t enough. It’s a charging time issue.
