    Painting a raw axle.

Just received the new axle I ordered. It’s raw so I will have to use primer. After that I’m unsure if there are any steps besides painting I should do? Anyone done this job before? How many coats of paint? Thanks

How many coats is up to you, whatever it takes to look good. Be sure to clean it very good with acetone to remove any grease or oil. Make sure to use the same type of primer and paint, like lacquer paint and primer or both enamel or whatever. If you overcoat with a different type of paint it will get fish eyes in it.

Do you think it would be okay to use that then spray over it with a color closer to what the trailer is?

Decided to leave it black for now. You guys were spot on with that Por-15 stuff. It went on great and looks wet it’s so shiny.
    Installed it today.

Looks awesome! Just an FYI....If you get any of it between the lid of the can and the can itself (in the groove), it becomes virtually impossible to remove the lid without destroying it. I put mine in a glass jar after I destroyed the can and have used it/stored it that way.
Also, it is UV sensitive so the color will fade over time if it's not top coated. I don't know personally what the best options are (to top coat with) but I've got a few things I have used POR-15 on and the shiny black has become a flat black. But GREAT STUFF!!
