Sprint boat prop selection, what do you run?

Have a new to me sprint 277 pro tournament, came with a 150 evinrude with an omc renegade 4 blade 23 pitch prop, not getting up to WOT rpm, Anyone else have this set up ? Or can recommend a 3 blade prop? Compression on motor is 100, can get up to 55 at 4500 rpm

1998 evinrude 150, with a 1998 277 pro tournament 17'3 boat, 100 psi compression on all 6 cylinders, rebuilt carbs, omc renegade 4 blade prop 23 pitch 13.75, hitting 55 mph at 4500 rpm, unfortunately the lake isn't huge so I have to turn but that's as fast as I have gotten it so far. Motor seems lugged

Forgot to add, I do not have a jackplate so it's super sensitive to trim height, seems like you have to trim it up pretty far but its my first boat so what do I know

The engine sounds healthy, except it needs to run around 5500 at top speed. That hull only weighs 1150 lbs and should perform much better unless the engine is all the way down on the transom. Do you know what the prop to pad is on the engine?

Your engine should spin that prop really well.

I have the same boat but with a 115 mercury and Jack plate...I average 44mph but have hit 47...and that's with 2 big fellers...I would think you should be able to run closer to the 60+ range myself

I never get tired of seeing that rig and the numbers she's putting out....Did not know you could get a sporty in 1:87... Sheesh, my 250 struggles turning a 28 Bravo 1 above 5400....In all fairness, I run fully loaded with a BPS store in all those compartments on the 207.

Nice Gary. I miss my old 180 ste for sure. I sure wish it had ran 80.

I have a 1996 277 Sprint with a 150 Mercury. I run a 23p Tempest. It is fine with just me in the boat, but with a passenger, I need a 22 pitch.
