    New To The Family

I'm slowly changing over to Garmin Products. I bought a LSV 34 with a 1222. Well of course I didn't think I would purchase a new trolling motor until my ultrex went out and I bought a Garmin Force. Now I want to change the the 1222 so I can use the built in transducer on the Force trolling motor

Any suggestion of what unit I should be looking at and where to purchase it at?

Well, do you plan on keeping the 1222 also? If you plan on keeping the 1222 then you can only network other GPSMap units with it. If you plan on selling it, then you can get anything.....assuming you want a 12" and a unit that has full capabilities with the built in GT54, then that would be the Ultra 122/126, GPSMap 1243xsv or GPSMap 8612...

You could get a 1242 xsv but it will not have UHD but can still work with the GT54 on troller.

There are some features that the GPSMAP units have that are not on the Echomap units......screen recording, save settings for different uses, etc. Only thing if starting from new they are not packaged with transducers. It would be an added cost BUT you could also chose what you want for your situation.

All the current units you can buy Echomap and GPSMAP families are the latest and greatest.....just a matter of what you want. Only one that does not have the UHD built in are the knob style in GPSMap units. I'd suspect those will be the next one to be updated.

    Good.

Recently, I heard MLF pro Josh Bertrand on a podcast specifically recommend the Echomap Ultra as the best bang for your buck. He runs two 12s at the console and two 10s on the bow. He prefers the smaller profile up front giving him more casting room with less chance of cracking glass with a lead weight. He did recommend the larger 12 if one was to go with a single unit. Of course, he likes the more expensive units as well but didn't find the cumulative cost of 4 units something that he would be willing to go for even as a MLF pro.
