    95 225 3.0L lower unit

So a few weeks ago I hit something and sheared off my prop and prop shaft on my 204. I have a '95 3.0L carbed mercury 225. Unfortunately Progressive insurance won't cover it as they say there's not enough evidence I hit something versus it just failed on its own. The real problem I'm having trouble with now is finding a replacement lower unit. Apparently the mechanic says it's an 8 spline drive shaft, which was only used with that lower unit for a short time and they are hard to find and not made anymore. Wondering if anyone has any advice or leads on a compatible LU? I'm located in Northern CA.
