    EV--AC ?

    Serious question.
    Does an EV have a compressor for the AC?
    If so, does it have its own motor to run when sitting in park or at a stop light?

    How about power steering----does the unit have to be moving for it to work?
    Reason for question... saw an unoccupied Tesla in a parking lot during 100-degree temps. Could sware something was running?

    My neighbor says he has to turn off the car keeping the interior temp regulated when he parks it outside for a week or longer at a time.

    You can keep the inside at a certain temp. It has a dog mode where it won’t let it get too hot or cold inside.

    I don't really know how the hvac system works but I know it's cold. It's significantly colder than any other vehicle I have had. Don't know yet about the heat. But, I have read that the heat pump and the octo valve they call it is really good and they plan to use it in home hvac units in the future.

    There are a few reasons for why the Tesla was still running. There's a hepa filter and there have been mold issues due to moisture in the filter and vents. So the fan normally runs for a few minutes after exiting the vehicle to help clear moisture in the vents and filter. You can also set climate control to maintain the cabin temperature for extended periods of time even if you're not in the car and there's a dog mode to keep pets safe in the vehicle. You can also turn on the climate control using your phone so the vehicle is at temperature and ready for you. And, there's cabin over heat protection that can be turned on. Cabin overheat protection can be set for fan only or ac use when the inside temps exceeds 105, or you can vent it with your phone app, which cracks all the windows to let heat escape.

    Power steering in a lot of if not most cars these days is electric not hydraulic.

    Few vehicles have hydraulic power steering and in an EV everything, including the power boost for braking, is electric. Its a bit more complicated in a plug-in hybrid where you might have a resistance heater to provide heat in EV mode as well as a more conventional coolant system for when the ICE is running. So while a plug-in hybrid EV eliminates range anxiety it does so by having more systems (cost) within the vehicle.

    Pretty simple in theory,
    They have a compressor like your house or frig but much smaller. It simply runs off the voltage of the battery's or an inverter.

    The compressor is electric. Also have high voltage cabin and battery heaters
