2017 Mercury Pro XS Faults

Motor has been running great. Out of nowhere I go to turn the key and the normal alarm to start to the motor does not go off. Shifter was in neutral kill switch all good. Noticed a pretty loud humming coming from the back of the motor on one of the fittings. Boat would also not allow me to put it in gear. I tried to turn the key to start it but turned it right off as the motor started to rev up pretty high.

Vessel View detected two faults:

“81 Legacy, Main Power Relay, This device is not responding properly.”

“236 Legacy Emergency Stop”


I do have a platinum warranty until 9/29/2024. Would something like this be covered? Also if anyone does recognize this issue is this serious? Or a relatively easy to fix?

Sounds like the main power relay failed. Remove/replace is pretty simple.

Update: mechanic found two wires that were rubbing and caused a short..thanks all!
