2006 Mercury 50ELPTEFI dies while running

    SN 1C006007

This motor is a friends motor. I do not know all the symptoms yet. He says it dies while running at speed but will restart. We think it is fuel delivery and have read several threads on other forums about how to trouble shoot the fuel system. I did not find any info here yet. I have never worked on a four stroke outboard but agreed to help him fix it...if we can.
I do have experience with fuel injected auto engines.

But I do have several questions:

Where can I find a shop manual and which one is best?

Any advice before we get started?

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

A good starting point would be to put a fuel pressure gauge on the engine, and run it to duplicate the problem (on the water).

If fuel pressure drops, see if pumping the primer bulb causes it to recover.

YES: Try a separate fuel tank and line, connected direct to the engine.

NO: Problem is likely in the VST assembly.
