Any one near Benton Harbor, that can give me a St Joe River report?
During normal river conditions, what is approximate current speed?
Thx !!

I was a few miles inland from Benton Harbor this past weekend but the river was in great shape from what I could see.

Idling along my boat trolls at 2.8 on a flat lake. Into what I consider normal current there I'll be @ 1.1 - 1.2. Those conditions are fairly typical from the mouth to I94. From I94 upstream to Rt31 and beyond the current is more varied because rivers are well rivers. Certain stretches upstream flow through narrow channels and idle will not hold against the current. Beautiful river and the first of many great ones as you travel N up the E side of Lake Michigan. If you're looking for SM explore up as far as you feel comfortable into where the Paw Paw empties into the St Joe it's a great SM creek (but for a canoe). I generally fish the St Joe after the leaves fall and before they sprout for the steelhead.
