2012 250 SHO any concerns with these?

Looking to purchase a 2012 250SHO with about 350hrs. Any issues with this year engines? I remember there being a main bearing issue or something like that but not sure what year/s it affected. any input on this engine would be greatly appreciated.

Does it have the original power head? Yamaha sent out letters to owners on earlier models that they would replace power head for free within a certain time frame. You might inquire within too make sure . They had problems with the throw out bearing.

Thats what I've been digging up. Anyway I can tell if the powerhead was replaced? Is there a particular part number stamped on a freeze plug possibly?

When you have the motor checked out by a dealer, there should be computer print out of all service on motor, I believe.

Also call Yamaha and give them your motor number as well.

My SHO 250 was a 2010 with early 2012 power head replace and with around 380 hrs. it broke and yamaha did not replace. The problem is thurst bearing failure. Metal in oil and a lot of play in crankshaft up and down.

Is it me or is the failure rate on the early 250 SHO so high that I should run away from this engine like its an early FICHT engine...OR.....its just a few out of the thousands sold and we are just seeing the bad?

I have personal experience with two 2011-12 250 HP SHO's (one I owned and one of a good friend). Zero issues with either. Both over 400 hours.
