    115 etc stalling when shifting

Just bought a boat with a couple year old 115 etec. Motor runs great except for shifting. Primarily seems to stall more when I go in reverse. For the most part it will start back up fairly quickly though one time it did take a couple starts.

So far I have replaced spark plugs, boat fuel filter, motor fuel filter, and made sure fresh gas was in it. I plan to replace the vst but beyond that I'm not sure what to do.

Serial and model number below. Thanks

I would be looking to a plugged exhaust back pressure fitting.
see it here, ref #10 on the power head / cylinder crankcase section. Enter your model number in the model search field.

Replace the small filter in the VST and see if that helps. # 0362268.

What I'm seeing is the rpms go down to about 500 when shifting. If the shift happens correctly they come up to 700 to 800 rpm. If not I see it just stay at 500 rpm and just slow down until it stalls out.

If I do a harder shift more throttle it seems to work better.

Seems like it's worse when warm or after getting down off plane.

Wide open throttle and all other rpm ranges otherwise seem fine.

Motor starts up first turn of key. If after it stalls it may take a couple attempts to restart. Basically if I give it about 15 seconds it works better then trying to immediately start it back.

Sounds like the shift interrupt switch is sticking!
