    Is this probable?

Saw an add for a 285 pro xl with a "tuned" 175 intruder. That add says the boat is an 80mph boat all day. I know it's "possible" but what's the likelihood? Motor is transom mounted as well from the looks of things

80 pulled behind his truck. Mine with a 150 is right at 60 on its best day ... 25 more HP and 20+ MPH gain? Im like you I guess its possible .

Well there's now more to the story. I was intrigued and replied to the thread with some questions...I'm always looking for more speed so maybe I could pick up some info right? Well it turns out that the "tune" is timing and carb work. He's slinging a 24p raker prop and he's spinning it to 7000 rpm.

Oh I almost forgot. He's got an 18ft tracker with a 2.4l "mercury racing engine" that'll run 120mph.

Good question for the Rude board here. No way I see one of those engines turning 7K RPM's.

It might turn it for five minutes before flying apart.

From what I've read on ChampioNman's posts 5800 is about the max that ya wanna run a 150 faststrike at so I'm guessing a 175 intruder would be roughly redlined around the same rpm.

I have a 24p raker on my 285pro xl 150 fast strike and I can only get about 56 mph at 5500 rpm so I can't see getting another 24mph with only another 1500 rpm.

I had a buddy in my fishing club that had that engine, also tuned somehow, strapped to an old Nitro DC2000 (which was basically a boat made by Astro, but badged Nitro). It was a wide body 20.0 foot boat, and that little 175 pushed it to about 63. I thought that was super impressive. I bought the boat from him, but sold the motor, and put a merc 200EFI that I already had from a prior boat on there and only got 61, and then the power head blew up in dramatic fashion. I unloaded the boat with the blown engine. Should have kept his "tuned" rude 175 in hindsight.

I thought to start he may just be looking at a speedo cause I have a 175 on a renegade 19 that'll do an honest 66 but the speedo shows 75+.

80mph seems to be the new speed to post on for sale ads. I've personally been in a lot of bass boats and not one has ever gone 80, I've never known someone who's boat goes 80, and I would bet my right rear tire that that boat doesn't do 80.

If you can get 60 out of a 150 you're doing good.

Yeah but this is a 175. Everyone knows every HP over 150 is 1 mph. Hahaha

Im pretty sure you can look that up on prop slip calculator, enter horse power , prop pitch and mph then it will calculate your slippage. most of the time the speeds these guys are saying their getting is impossible according to the math. lol

Obviously this prop has a negative slip. Must be a game changer!

What year motor? Think the early Intruders put out 15% more hp than advertised. I had a 1992 175 Intruder on a 1992 Nitro 190TF. Think the motor was closer to 200 HP. That boat was a screamer. It would turn a 26 inch Raker 5900 RPMs all day long. Didn’t have GPS or a radar gun back then.

The specs on the two boats are about the same. If you have an early motor, I think it would push that 285 along at a pretty good clip. But not 80.

I've just added this to the list of common lies guys tell. Size of their fish, size of their manhood, gas mileage of their vehicle, and boat speed. Hahaha.
