What is the best way to clean the grate on a smoker. It is a Traeger.

Cover grate in foil. Get pit up over 400 degrees. Let it stay there for at least an hour. Crude will turn to a white powder and brush off. Make sure you coat them with something after this to prevent rust

I get the bits and pieces off with a stainless scrubber pad. Not steel wool. On a grill I just crank it and burn it off. It’s best to run something over them as you take the meat off a smoker. That way it doesn’t fossilize before you go back out. I usually forget and have to scrub that crusty crap off.
Here's a great trick that is super simple. Remove your grates and place in a large plastic garbage bag. Put about 2C of household ammonia in the bag and seal it up good and tight. Leave outside on a sunny day. The next day, carefully open the bag (make sure you do not inhale the fumes), remove the grates, and hose them off. They will be clean.

To clean the grill parts and trays-------Let them cool off and lay it down in the grass close to the grill---it will be clean in a day or two. Ants are natures best cleaners !!!!!!!

Most Traegers have porcelain coated grill grates. Clean as rb advised, or they can be soaked in hot water and Dawn and then they scrub up easier.
You can soak them in a large, HD leaf bag.
I keep my SS grates on my grill and BGE clean, but I’m mainly concerned with keeping the grates from forming a “crust”. They don’t have to be shiny. I just try to keep the grates smooth.
