Yes that is the assembled overall length with connectors.

The cylinder length has to be about 5" in length so the motor will fully deploy and latch.

I don't see any suitable length gas springs listed in their inventory.

Hey Wayne , what size aluminum billet would be a good starting point for this project ?

Looks like the parent company for the gas spring is a Korean company called Hanil.

Do not see any choices that would match what is needed.

I talked to a "Marine Engineering Specialist" at Bansbach and did an in-depth detail of what is needed and why. Supposed to hear back in a couple of days.

BTW, the overall length is not as critical as the compressed length since it only affects the vertical position of the Yoke when stowed.

The piston has to be mounted in its full extension

Of course, but the yoke can move a lot to connect the other end of the gas spring to the mount arm.
The gas spring does not start being compressed until the motor is 1/2 way deployed, the yoke moves from vertical to horizontal during the 1/2 deploy.

Hmm I’ll have to look at this a bit harder.

Great thread, gaining a lot from this. Tired of pulling my guts out to retract my Ultrex! When someone does a production run on the yoke/trunion piece I hope they can update, I want one.

My two cents……. I’ve been running the TS&S lift assist boost system for several months. Through my trial error on different lift forces, trying several different pounds lift gas shocks, I would want a total of 300 pounds of lift force or 1334N give or take 30 pounds. I initially tried 1570N where deployment/stowing was very easy except I had to step on the Ultrex arm to lock it down. I ran 1214N where deployment was easy, stowing required less force than my Ultrex without the Mega 360 and Mega Live on a motorized pole without adding additional weight to the Ultrex arm to lock it down.

Considering the position of the springs is a bit different, your experience with the TS&S system may not translate. However, given Wayne’s anecdote with his double piston system 1400-1500N may be the magic number depending on what’s attached to the trolling motor.

You present a very good question of the placement of the gas springs and any differential in lift force. If I were to err on too much lift force versus too little, I don’t want to have to step on the Ultrex to lock it down. Adding 400N to 500N to the stock 860N is a heck of a lot of benefit for me. I hope all this turns into a viable option for those that need the help.

I think two of the Minnkota 770N gas springs is about right for the MEGA 360/MEGA LIVE/Target Lock installation for the 24V motor.
    The 36V motors weigh more.
Another thing pointed out when I picked up a couple more adapters yesterday, the distance of the lower unit from the mount affects the effort to stow/deploy. If you have to use the motor's full shaft length that will be different than keeping it as shallow as possible.
If you have a 52" 36V motor and use all of the shaft length, the dual 860N may be best or a combo 770N/860N.

Is anyone producing the two-piston attachment block ? Lifting the trolling motor is keeping me off the water for now until my back heals.

An intelligently designed mount would have a high integrity spring that could have multiple position configurations to account for various accessories.

The Bansbach gas springs are adjustable. You start with one at or above the power you think you need and if it is too much, you open the valve (have to purchase the tool) to let off some gas pressure to suit the load. If you do too much, you can send it back to be recharged.
BUT so far there is not a stock one that fits what is needed as described in threads above. The number one thing is its compressed length when the motor is deployed.

There really isn’t much play in the yoke position for extended length so I’m thinking both extended and compressed position lengths will need to be precise. I have a quote to custom build one, but there is a minimum $10,000 order.
