I replaced a 50 HP 4 stroke with a 90 HP 2 stroke and installed a digital tach gauge. Now the over heat is flashing on gauge. All wiring was plug and play. What am I missing?

How old are the motors? Important because in 2005 Yamaha made a wiring change to the tachometer. Is the F50 2004 or older and the 90 is 2005 or later?
Reason why I ask about the two stroke is because Yamaha US has not offered a 90 two stroke since 2009. A 2009 is maybe no longer considered current.
If the F50 is 2004 or older there should be two four pin connectors in the engine pan that run in a harness to the tachometer. A 2005 or later 90 two stroke will use just one four pin connector at the motor end and maybe two at the tachometer end.
Does your tachometer have two four pin connectors in addition to maybe four single wires.
The original wire harness was for 1995 50 HP 4 stroke. The 90 HP 2 1999 year is installed now. I haven’t checked motor , but on tack I have one 4 wire plug and one 2 wire plug. The rest are single

Seems that you have two four pin connectors attached to the tachometer. The number of wires is irrelevant.
One more question, does the tachometer have a pink wire that is connected with bullet connectors?
Do you have any idea how old the tachometer is? Does it have lights on it or does it have LCD icons?
The older analog gauge had one 4 connector wire colors green/red and green/red plus a yellow/red that is single with bullet connector year should be 1995.
digital gauge has 2 4 pin connectors with a pink wire on one of them. No ping single link wire bullet connector. The led flashes above temp even with motor off. I have no idea on age it doesn’t have the mode button I see on newer ones.

Wanted to thank Yam911 for all the help on this forum!! Ended up Everything was wired and tested had to toggle dip switches for gauge to work perfectly
