How to replace broken hand rail?

My passenger handrail broke. I’ve removed the set screw but the part that goes into the center support won’t budge. Is there a trick to getting it out? I searched the owner's board FAQ with no joy. 2010 puma.

    A post from BCB themselves:

"In the center of the rail there should be center support bracket, on this bracket there should be a nut with an allen screw in it, lossen that allen screw, push the light into the gunnel and then pull out once it clears the supportbracket where you just disconnecte it from. The original back in 06/07 were one piece i believe and this may be more difficult with those, and not sure of the procedure, but the newer models are two pieces. You should be able to look up each gunnel with the lights on and see if its the fwd or the aft light that is out. Oh and they are not going to just slide in and out, you better be ready to get a good grip on them and do some twisting and turning on the sucker to get it out of the gunnel."

I can easily get the broken piece out of the gunnel, it is the short piece of the rail in the support bracket that I cannot budge. There has to be a trick to it. Mine is a 2010 so should be two pieces and I have already removed the set screw.

The stanchion is hard mounted and will be difficult to get to the stud underneath. It’s possible through the rod box or throttle area, though difficult. The rails are installed after it’s mounted and you should not need to loosen those.

To clarify, I am trying to remove the broken rail from the support bracket. It won't budge. I removed the set screw but I cannot pull the rail out of the bracket. There is a white insert between the rail and the bracket. BCB - Are you recommending I remove the support bracket from the top cap?

You could have to remove the opposing half to drive the broken portion out.

I'll certainly give it a shot if/when I get the opposing half removed. So far it isn't budging either. I'm hoping once I find something that will give me a better grip it will break free.

Success! Adjustable pliers did the trick. I was able to pull out the broken piece and then punched out the opposing half. I figure I'd replace that one too to ensure consistency in appearance. The key was getting a good grip. I don't recommend the pliers if you are reusing the hand rail, but they were ideal for a broken one.

The corner of a dock broke it. The boat went up with a wake and caught the edge.
