My old man finally broke down and replaced the cams after about three months!
You had a electrical red stoplight downtown? You lived in a big city!

I remember them well, whole lot less stuff to go wrong and easier to fix at home.

Learned to drive in my grandpa's 55 chevy pickup with three on the tree when I was 10-11. He would sit on the front porch and watch me go back and forth up and down his long drive way for what seemed like hours. Couldn't turn around at either end so it was good backup training too.

It also had one of these by the gas pedal for those that can remember what it is

Yep one of my better predictions was that dimmer switches on the turn signal lever would never replace the floor button .

The only thing that was before my time was the floor starter button. Everything else, had it and miss it, especially the floor dimmer. Learned to drive in a 70 Chevy truck with the 3 on the tree. It was pretty reliable, never got hung up on me. My first job as a 'yard man' at an apartment complex also required me to be a gopher.....driving a wore out 68 GMC with a 3 on the tree. It would hang up all the time between 1st and second. I learned to go from first, almost to reverse and let go of the shifter. It would fall in the gate, then you could move it to second.

Drove an old Hilman Minx with 4 on the tree....to reverse you had to shift in neutral push down and then pull down for reverse......

That would have been the starter button. Turned the switch on and pressed the started with your toe, while giving it some gas with your heel.
