    Live well pump

Can you replace a live well cartridge with a higher gph cartridge of the same brand. I currently have a 500 gph pump and it is getting weak. Want to replace just the cartridge but want to go with a higher gph. Will the interchange or are the housings different sizes as well

yes, you can--up to a point. I went from 500 to 750 without any issues. At some point the increase in volume changes the size of the plumbing connectors if you need to change the whole pump. I think that I was able to go to 1,000 without issue(just changing the internal cartridge and reusing the external housing.)

It is a Johnson pump. Boat has a 34 gallon livewell. Need it to fill a lot faster.

You can use a 750 gph cartridge. If you go to a 1000 gph,it might make the LW overflow,it can pump more water than the overflow can drain.

Thanks guys. Ordered the 1000 going to try it and see what happens. If it end up being too much I'll get a 750
