Anyone been to a dog show?

I bought my dog from "champion" lines and in hindsight it was a waste of money. Made up like the diamond industry. Really all that was necessary were healthy hips (OFA was good IIRC) and the breeder selectively bred for intelligence and temperament. The whole show thing and points stuff if just made up to get boobs like me to pay more for an animal. AKC has turned into a racket and if they disappeared tomorrow dogs would still do jobs and be pets.

Perhaps in “show” dogs your thoughts are correct.

The importance isn’t made up.

If the person is a trainer, owns a kennel, is a breeder, those titles due several things. They verify the breeds health, conformation, train and workability, lineage, etc.

The other thing those titles due is bring greater dollar value to stud fees and pups.

I presumed the OP was talking about conformation dog shows, i.e. beauty contests. Competitions that involve field tests or other tests of abilities or behavioral traits makes all the sense in the world.

AKC has always been a racket. AKC will let so called breeds in that UKC wouldn’t think about. They have the bloodline registry over any other registration by a long shot.
