Why are the strong majority of bass boats rigged with Mercury? I’ve owned Evinrude and Yamaha and Mercury. They’re all good in their own right. Just seems odd that nearly all boats have Mercs.

Really only two choices left Merc and Yam. Merc more available. Suzuki and Honda not really significant players on bass boats, Suzuki is trying.

Obviously you have not tried to buy a new engine lately, I really think these times are more deliberately done than most realize.

Could be that Mercury gives the manufacturers the best deal on engines.
For me, more service centers for mercury in my area.
Yeah I never really understood that. I prefer Mercury because they are made here. I always thought it was funny what people thought about 4 strokes. Every other company made a 4 stroke and everyone poo-pooed them but as soon as mercury came out with one the stated dis-advantages became the advantages and everyone wanted to ditch their motor to buy one. To put it plainly many bass fishermen have their head far up mercury's ass.
If I was buying new I would get a Yamaha, Mercury has gotten to restrictive with their products and any aftermarket support for them, much like John Deere and the software to diagnose and fix them is much more expensive. Yamaha has plenty of aftermarket tuning and performance options, they don't care as much about you modifying their stuff and the dianositc tools are cheaper and more readily available. It is the same way in the offroad side by side market, I would much rather have a Yamaha than a Polaris.
No one can be wrong that often so it has to be deliberate.
GOAT
.
Mercury owns more boat manufacturers than Yamaha.
2021 Skeeter ZX225
2021 Yamaha SHO 225 VF225LA
My Evinrude went south last fall, dealer had a new Merc no Yamahas. No Suzuki or Honda dealers around.
Could it have anything to do with---
Mercury who has slow production at best since going all 4 stroke is still putting out more than anyone else.
Not to mention that Yamaha was shut down for a while.
Tried to order a SHO on my new boat.....was going to be an extra 8-12 weeks estimate to get the SHO, not to mention it was an extra $2000. On top of that, there was a back order on parts in the event something went wrong....I finally said, no thanks.
I got a 200 mercury on my pontoon and its amazing but I had a 250 SHO for 12 years and it never missed a beat .
A little cheaper and more readily available than the competition. That’s the main thing.
2020 Nitro Z20 Pro Package
It's been said a bunch already but the availability of the mercs vs the Yamaha is a big reason currently. Yamaha is supplying skeeter, g3 and it's other boat companies first. White river marine has had a deal with mercury forever that is why you have only ever seen mercury's on nitro's unless someone repowered. When they bought PE it wasn't long and ranger, triton, and others went that way with merc only. I believe due to the bulk of engines they buy they get a better deal on the mercs.
Yamaha cost more money and are on backorder. Supply chain issues in Japan are bad right now.
