First to Succumb to the Rising Costs........

Could this be the first of many?

I understand this was to be his final year, but effective immediately!

Well the link made no mention of your thread title. Sounds like he has figured out a way to keep busy, keep the cash flow, and sleep in his own bed at night. Seems like a win win to me.

I think he just wanted to do something different but stay in the industry. The Elite field is no joke these days and the competition is stout and only getting better. He might have seen an opportunity to start a new company and have a more stable income.

People come, people go - I'm sure they'll have no problem filling the slot.

After reading the article I don't think that rising costs had anything to do with his decision.

He's definitely starting to age, which does come at a price.
Pretty sure he's a former firefighter, about 20 years as a pro.
Can't imagine the upside of a tour is better than his choice.
Wish him the very best in his newest journey, he's earned it.

I'd say he would have finished the season if he had a good shot at the Classic and was in the AOY race. He was 69th in the standings.

I shudder to see what this current debacle does to the tournament participation in my neck of the woods.

I’ve been an instructor pilot in the USAF and an airline. Think I ‘can’t’?

Im sure it was a factor. Looking at the price of gas, entry fees and a long drive north I’m sure made that decision easier for him.

H wasn't the first to bow out mid-season and he certainly won't be the last.

It has happened many times before and will happen again a lot of retirements get announced when someone else quits paying the bills.

It’s the reality that goes with the territory staying home half way through the season cutting your losses and getting started on the next chapter of your life is a way better choice than than gambling on a few more tournaments.

Thanks for your service to our Country and keeping those who travel on the Airlines Safer by giving the Pilots the training from your years of experience.
