1997 20ft Jaguar. 225 Mariner 25 Trophy Plus 4 blade. Power Lift Manual Jackplate. Boat has terrible holeshot, when finally gets on plane it runs great. What is proper prop to pad setting and best prop and vent hole set up

I had an '02 Jag with a 225 Optimax, best prop for me was a 24 3 blade Fury, no plugs, I bet that a 4 blade Fury 24 would run well too.

Check the Mercury boards. Those motors can suffer from clogged up exhaust tuner relief holes and cause the symptoms you are having.

    Hope this link works: http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=23837

We did use 25 Predator Eagle propellers on this age product and a 24 or 25 Fury may work well today. This was pre Fury and pre-Trophy also, and a. 25 or 24 Trophy could work with an exhaust vent ring.

This engine is prone to the TPI moving and it may need adjusting by a competent technician, which only takes a few minutes. Fuel supply could also be an issue as this Mercury Marine fuel line (grey) is not an ethanol resistant and deteriorates internally. The boats lines are ethanol resistant. From memory spark plugs also could be needed but we don’t recall their number we used.

My 99 Jag belonged to Governor Mike Huckabee and I have the build sheet that came with it. It has a 225 Opti and came from the factory with a 23 Tempest Plus. The hole shot is great.

I remember those Predator Props when I ran a PII back in the day. It did love that prop. It finally slung a blade, and I couldn’t find another, and it was hard to find one that would work. I remember having issues as you are having, we finally solved it, but don’t remember how. I dearly loved that rig, it was a screamer, and great to fish out of. One of my all time favorites.
