    Torque Specs Question

I am a little new to working on outboards myself, and after changing out my water pump I looked at the torque specs for the lower unit bolts and this is whats in the manual:

    5.
Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to threads of the gearcase retaining screws. Install the screws and tighten as follows:

    • 3/8 in. screws: 26-28 ft. Ibs. (35-38 N·m)
    • 7/16 in. screws: 45-50 ft. Ibs. 61-68 N·m)

How do I know which bolts I have. Neither of the heads match either of those sizes. Idk if someone changed bolts over the last 25 years on the unit, but I am uncertain what torque spec I should be using.

I believe that is the screw diameter and not the head size. Your 3/8" screws would have a 9/16 head and a7/16 screw would have a 5/8" head on it...
