    New Prop not working

Let me preface this question by saying I am fairly ignorant when it comes to props. I have a 1996 Stratos 278 FS with a 1996 150 hp 2 stoke Evinrude that I bought used several years ago. The prop on it has some dings and the hub is slipping a bit so I went to a local prop shop to replace it. Brought the existing prop which is a stainless 4 blade Shooter prop. It has 869 F3 stamped on it. I told the guy I would like a very similar prop as I really like this one. The one that he sold me is 4 blade stainless Express Mach 4. It has 3143 2330 13x23 stamped on it. It doesn't work at all. When I accelerate, just as soon as the boat reaches plane, all of the sudden the boat looses all power (seems that the prop is cavitating extremely). As soon as it slows down, the prop seems to start pushing again but as soon as you accelerate again, it does the same thing. The prop guy insists it is a comparable prop but it sure doesn't work! Any ideas?????

Sounds like he got you the wrong one... the 4 1/4 in hub instead if the 4 3/4 in model. I woudn't have suggested either...

You might get by with it if you add a cav ring to block off exhaust around the small barrel.... I'm assuming this is the problem.

I tried the cav ring but it didn’t work. Sounds like the prop shop will take this one back. Anyone have a recommendation for this boat? I use it primarily for fishing, pull a skier once in awhile. More concerned about a prop that will get me up on plane quickly, not real concerned about top speed.

I'd look for a 22P Bravo1 FS or XS and adjust venting to 3500-3800 rpms on holeshot.
