    Caymas CX 18ss 150 vs 175

I understand if money/availability were no object to go with the 175. But I searched posts here and couldnt find much in the way of performance with the 150 proxs vs the 175. Anyone have real world figures? Dealer only seems to have 150s and I was looking at Skeeter ZX150 and Ranger Z185's which are only available with 150's anyways. Appreciate any input

I saved a lot because I got a 2021 leftover with a 150 Pro XS. Just waiting for the trolling motor and electronics to be received and installed.

You are right though, seems like you will see mostly 150's on the 18 footers. Also not a lot of info out there. Dealer says everybody wants big boats and 250's.

Not a speed demon so if I can get close to 55 mph I'll be happy.

The 175 is well worth the wait and extra cost, never a good Idea to under power a boat, no matter what kind of deal you get on it.

Just saw a post on a Caymas Facebook site that a guy just hit 60+ with the 150 Pro XS and a 24p. Some others also chimed in with similar results.

The CX18ss is rated for 150. The CX18 GTS package is rated for 175. Which is obviously an additional cost. The 18’ bass boat is not exactly in the “high performance” category. The 150 is fine on that boat, especially if a guy is saving money.

Yeah get the GTS package with a 175 for sure, or get a smaller boat if you only want a 150 hp motor. You can get a Triton TRX 18 with a 200 hp.

I could not imagine my boat with a 150, a 175 would likely be marginal.

I agree, those boats are great with a 200 on them. A 150 would be a slug.

The 18trx and CX18 are both upper 50mph boats with a 150. For many people that’s all they want or need. Hell my Sabre does 65 with the underpowered 150 I have on it. I couldn’t tell you the last time I ran it over 60. As long as the boat doesn’t struggle to get on plane a 150 will be plenty for many buyers of 18’ bass boats

and there have been Bass Cat Margay's that have touched 70 with 150 on them....

I do not think upper 50's is slow and will be happy with that.

150hp is the correct sized motor for a Margay/Bobcat.

    Yup....

And a 150hp is the correct sized motor for a Caymas CX 18 SS.

I’m guessing you’ll rarely run at full throttle anyway. Upper 50s would be great plenty for myself as well. I usually cruise around 35-40mph. As long as the boat gets on plane quickly, that’s what I really care about

You are correct. That’s what the 18ss is rated for. Enjoy your rig!

Quite a bit larger hull and doesn't do nearly as well with a 150 on it. They should rate that hull for a 200hp.

Pretty sure the CX18 is a price point boat anyway. They offer packages within the line for 3 different motor sizes. Obviously they didn’t see the need to keep the GTS rated for a 200 like the first few out of the plant

We have the CX 18ss with the GTX package and a 150 Merc, top speed is about 53mph, Its up on plane in seconds. Typically we cruise about 38mph which btw consumes 10 gallons per hours. I suspect if we pulled a lot of gear off it we could squeeze a couple more mph out of it.

I see other posts referencing Pad to Prop dimensions, is there chart or something that provides recommended Pad to Prop for the CX-18 SS with the 150 Merc

That measurement will vary from boat to boat and the way it's loaded. It's really a process of trial and error till you get it right.
