Might need a new powerhead- many questions

A few weeks back, my starter went out on my 2016 F175 and it damaged the engine block. 21 days out of warranty and less than 200 hours on the engine. Needless to say, I have been pretty miserable over this. I am still waiting to hear back from the marine shop who sent a report to Yamaha. The technicians said they had never seen anything like the damage that my block had sustained from the starter going out and feared that I would need a new powerhead. So anyways, here are the questions I have in anticipation of being told I need a new powerhead:

    1) How long does the repair take and roughly how many hours of work is typical?
    2) What is a ballpark repair cost?
    3) Should I shop around and research for a shop to do this repair? I have been working with a reputable marine shop but I really don't know much about the technicians. Is this something that any competent shop can do? Any Midwest Yamaha shops that are highly recommended?
    4) Once the new powerhead is installed, what type of warranty should I expect? Does it come from Yamaha or the dealer?
    5) Will a replaced powerhead likely cause more problems down the road? I bought this Yamaha based on its reliability reputation and while I clearly got unlucky, how should I view my engine once it gets repaired?

    Any information is appreciated.

Get on the phone and talk to Yamaha Customer Support. Be nice. See if they will offer goodwill support. Maybe a new power plant if the old one is not technically or economically feasibly repairable.

If a new power plant is needed then it will come with a one year parts only warranty. From Yamaha. Dealer may offer a repair warranty for his labor.

If a new power plant is installed then for all practical purposes it is a new motor. .

The marine shop said that Yamaha is really good about taking care of their customers so I am a little optimistic that I might not be on the hook for the entire cost due to my low hours, just being out of warranty, and the freak nature of this malfunction. They even suggested that Yamaha could supply the parts and I would pay the labor. We'll see.

It's been some time now. But when I was with Chrysler, Ford and GM it was common if you were the original purchaser they would supply the parts and you pay the labor. Even with the warranty being expired for some time.

With yours being only 21 day out I would hope Yamaha would fix it.
