I just got into a 2021 721 with 250 Merc 4S. The boat came with a 23 Tempest that looks almost new. First time out it ran 75mph at 5900 rpms, 3/4 tank of fuel, no water in wells, moderate tackle load, me at 175lbs and 82 degree water. This is with flooded batteries and no poles. I ran out of the semi-calm stretch of water, but, I think it may have a few more MPH especially once the water cools. Hole shot and mid-range are impressive and there's good bow lift at cruising speeds.

Are you sure that it's a 23? Are the rpms from a smartcraft gauge or analog gauge that is inaccurate? I am playing with a 25 Tempest and, first time out, it ran 76.5 at 5970. A Tempest 25 turns about like a Fury 24, so that 23 Tempest would run about like a 22 Fury and should be all over the limiter. I have the same boat as you ('21 model 721/Merc 4S).

Yes it is a 23P Tempest Plus. I was surprised too when I picked up the boat but it runs well without bumping the limiter. The boat had poles and multiple graphs (and possibly a 5 battery system) but the previous owner kept all that. Maybe he needed a 23 because of the added weight.
