Not sure exactly where it came from. I didn't see any missing anywhere. could have been one they dropped during assembly. anyone have any idea?

Thats a common size used in multiple places. Hopefully it was dropped during assembly.

Looks like it has been used honestly. Maybe they dropped it after the first service last year and just put a new one in it's place. I will run it up to the dealer and see if they can tell me.

No sir. Service was done last July and the motor has not been touched since then, I took it by the dealer today, the tech came out and looked at the screw/bolt, looked at me and said "there is a bunch of those in that engine"...."but I will go look really quick with my light." we both looked around, and found nothing missing from out view point. He said it was likely dropped during assembly or service and they just put another in its place. Told me not to worry too much about it. So I said ok and went fishing.. not much else I can do. I wouldn't expect them to stop what they are doing and tear the engine down to find a the mystery whole or maybe no mystery at all. He just told me to hold on to it just in case.

More than likely they are correct. I've even seen a couple recently where the "spare bolt" wasn't even a type used on Mercury engines.

I think that bolt matches exactly gif the small cradle where your fuel line and cables enter the front of the lower cowel

it looks like the bolts on the side of the engine that holds the plastic housing on. I think it's 4 bolts top to bottom. I will check where you arfe talking about.

Look inside of the cowl and see if any part of the cowl assembly is bolted on with that bolt. My cowl was missing a similar bolt and causing a rattle at speed. Not the same engine but you never know.

hum, who knows. I did what I could. I took it to a certified merc dealer and mater tech, he told me not worryabout it. Nothing else I can do myself. I am certainly not going to take things apart. I looked and he looked and could find no missing bolts.
