    St Clair questions

Hi everyone, yes I’m from out of state and trying to understand the rules.

    1. If I fish on the Canadian side all I need is a Michigan license and Ontario license correct?

    2. I understand that bass “season” opens on the Canadian side on June 25. Can I fish in Canada before that date as long as I immediately release anything I catch?

Thank you for help and I promise to clean up after myself, treat the fish correctly, and spend some money while up there.

Can’t even target them until then. Depends where your gonna fish. Might need a Walpole license AND a Walpole boaters permit

You need an Outdoor Card with your Ontario License

OK, here is another question, can I go into Canadian waters just looking and graphing without a fishing rod? Is that allowed?

You can go to Canada and do whatever you need to do. If you have gear and they see that you are targeting bass you're likely to get ticketed. They've heard every story so usually using well I was throwing this ned rig and catching walleye isn't going to go far. No issues using your graph to mark spots for fishing.

I've never been asked but assume they would have seen you catching bass after bass and then head over for a chat.

Canadian Rules are different it’s not what you catch but your intent to catch

If they see you throwing bass baits in an area that should be holding bass that is enough for a citation even if you never caught a fish

There is a Walpole license too if you fish tribal waters.

    I see 1Badair addressed this.

You also need different safety gear for Canadian waters. Read the regs.
