For someone who does not use there boat a lot, your return on investment in regard to fuel economy is never and beyond. If you choose to upgrade to the 4s, keep the old EFI on a stand in the garage(pickled)
and put it back on the boat when you do sell. A 4s on a 20 year old boat will not be appreciated as much as it should IMO.
Boat shopping in the future with a 4s to put on whatever you buy will put a lot more boats in play, perhaps a great deal on one with a blown Opti.

If the 03 Cougar is built with the vynil ester resin then you have true gem. Sure, the 03 models didn't have any rear storage which is what the OP seems to be upset about, but there are ways to maximize the storage it does have. Perhaps a deck extender would help. Those model cougars were a great tournament boat and would absolutely fly. The OP wouldn't have any issues selling her should he decide on a newer boat for the an 03 bass cat is sought after by those in the know. My two cents would be to enjoy the cougar until in a better position to either repower with a 4 stroke or replace with a newer cat.

If his cougar is a ve boat and as I suspect, has a 3l 250, it truly is a gem.
I wonder if the engine is an xb?

You can buy alot of gas for what it will cost you to upgrade and your motor is more reliable than an opti IMHO

Don’t trade that boat because of storage. You can buy some pegboard, go through all the stuff in the boat and organize. While my little aluminum rig does what I need there are days I miss my big boat and there is no way I’m paying todays prices to replace it.
