    I was told at the DMV that as long as the boat minus the trailer weighs 3000 lbs or less it was perfectly legal. Mine is also a tandem trailer that is rated for 5000 lbs that is what they always went off of to give us TB plates, but with a boat trailer the weight generally stays the same unlike a utility trailer

    Mines a single axle, but rated at 5,000lbs. So it has a TB for the tune of $154 again this year.
