Tragic. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss. I grew up fishing False River, and it’s kind of like a mini Conroe when it comes to navigating it at night. There’s so many lights on the bank of different colors and heights, that it’s hard to tell what’s boat and what’s not.
And yet another example of an inflatable that didn’t inflate. I wish they would ban them for tournaments.
tragic.

Terrible! Prayers for their families. I wear an inflatable myself but check it before I put it on. I wonder if it was a manual type. If knocked out you could not deploy it. I invested in hydrostatic type a few years back. And probably will buy another new one next year. Have two now but I feel like it is worth buying a new one every 5 or so years to replace older ones. Posts like this however doesn’t increase your faith in them. When running the outboard I suppose it is still a good idea to wear the old foam type.
Prayers out to both families and especially the sons that were involved, terrible.
I really don't get the appeal of night tournaments and I have no idea why running after sunset is legal.
Ouch - So sad and a shame this happened.

To give some insight, some people have an appreciation for less muggy conditions and less sun/heat on there bodies. Also hopefully less abusive on the fish. Also shorter tournaments which specifically is better for kids. I think we should all be able to enjoy lakes at all hours, and can't imagine how these things happen without negligence.

I wore a self inflatable for a while and thought it was the answer but one time fishing in The Upper Peninsula of Michigan the Wind from Chicago showed up creating some good sized swells that would only get worse.
My Xpress isn't a big rough water boat so decided to head back to the ramp got drenched by one big swell right when I got in the drivers seat the Inflatable should have deployed but didn't went back to a conventional PFD after that.
