    Problem with engine.

    Hi. I'd appreciate any help with the following. Engine is a 1999 Mercury Optimax. Sometimes this light turns on when I turn the key. When the light is turned on and I'm coming out of the hole the speed goes down and if I hit the gas the engine sputters and loses power. As a side note, when the light turns on, if I put it in reverse the light turns off and the engine works ok going forward.

    Disconnect the shift interrupt switch for test purposes. Suspect shift cable may be out of adjustment or a bad switch
