A friend of mine says he has some scuba diving weights. Has anyone ever used them for lure making? Are they pure lead or do they have a lot of other stuff in them?

Other than paying big bucks to get it tested, the only thing I can think of is see if you can scratch it with your thumb nail. You should be able to if it is pure lead.
I've made many jigs from scuba weights. They were not pure lead. I melted down to 1lb ingots and add pure lead according to what size I poured. They will pour larger jigs and weights just fine.
